Is the TRIA Laser for You?

The first page of the TRIA laser “instructions for use” is a skin tone chart indicating which skin tones can be used with the TRIA laser.  Laser hair removal works by disabling the hair follicle.  To do this, the laser light pulse heats up the dark hair pigment. If you’re hair isn’t dark enough, there’s nothing to heat up.  And conversely, if your skin is too dark, the laser can’t find the hairs to heat up.  So light skin and dark hair is the best combination.  Thankfully, that’s me exactly! I found that my skin was between the Ivory and Beige combination colors on the chart when I have tanned a bit, and between White and Ivory where I haven’t. But clearly, if you have medium brown or dark brown/black skin tones you should not sure the TRIA system.

I found it interesting that the bottom of the page has a note that says basically that you should not use an online version of copy of the color chart to determine if the TRIA laser is for you.  Only an original booklet has the correct colors.
